Former Bihar MLA Fires At Children – One Killed, Four Injured

Former Bihar MLA, Suryadev Singh of the JD(U), was arrested on Sunday evening for allegedly firing at a group of children playing outside his house in Bihar’s Rohtas district and killing a 13-year-old girl. At least four others, including three children, were hospitalised with gunshot injuries. The condition of two children is said to be critical.

Singh, who has been at loggerheads with relatives over a long-running feud regarding a plot of land, allegedly fired from a rifle during an argument with some people on the terrace of his house at Tenduni village.

Thirteen-year-old Hazira Khatun succumbed to the injuries at a private hospital nearby. Three other children – Divakar, 8, Sahil, 4, and Prakash, 12 – and another man named Guddu, 35, were the others who sustained injuries.

The former MLA fled from the scene soon after learning that the children had sustained injuries in the firing. Angry villagers had protested around Singh’s house demanding his immediate arrest.

The police are not giving out too many details considering how influential Suryadev Singh as been as a politician in the area.
