Approximately 5,000 parents of children studying in 40 schools in Gurgaon will hold a protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on April 9 against fee hike by various private schools, the parents’ body – The All India Parents Forum for Education – has announced.
The Forum also announced that parents from Gurgaon and Faridabad too will hold protests outside the Gurgaon divisional commissioner’s office on April 2.
During the meeting, parents claim that school fees have increased by nearly 400% in the last eight to 10 years. The forum demanded that the government enact a new law to give statutory status to The Fees and Fund Regulatory committee (FFRC) to help keep the fees under check. The body was formed under Section 158 A of the Haryana School Education Act and comes under the authority of the divisional commissioner in Gurgaon.
Protests against fee hike has taken place a number of times over the years in various States – particularly in States such as Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.
The HindusthHindustan Timesan Times had reported yesterday that some schools in Chandigarh had doubled their fees in one year.
